How Wallet Drainers Work
Wallet drainers are sophisticated, malicious smart contracts designed to steal your assets. Unlike a traditional rug pull where a developer drains the liquidity pool, a wallet drainer attacks your personal funds directly.
Here is how the scam is executed:
- The Lure: Scammers infiltrate popular Telegram groups, often cloning the profile picture and username of the real developer to look like an admin. They drop a link promising a free airdrop, an exclusive NFT mint, or an early presale allocation.
- The Fake Interface: The link takes you to a beautifully designed website that looks completely legitimate. It asks you to connect your wallet.
- The Malicious Approval: When you click the "Claim" button, your wallet pops up asking you to approve a transaction. If you are not carefully reading the transaction simulation, you will not realize that the contract is actually executing a "Set Approval For All" or a direct transfer function, giving the hacker full access to sweep your SOL and NFTs.
